Tammy Mahaney, DNP, FNP-C
The patient is always the first stakeholder.

Bio

Dr. Tammy Mahaney is a Venture Capitalist at Suncoast Ventures, where she focuses on healthcare companies improving access, equity, and patient outcomes through innovative technologies. A Doctor of Nursing Practice and Family Nurse Practitioner, she brings more than two decades of clinical experience spanning women's health, primary care, neurosurgery, cardiology, pediatrics, perioperative care, and community medicine.

She currently serves as a Family Nurse Practitioner providing women's health services and primary care in the San Francisco Bay Area, while continuing her work in global health and medical outreach. Her clinical experience, combined with certification through the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (ABAIM), provides a unique perspective on how emerging technologies can improve healthcare delivery.

Before entering venture capital, Dr. Mahaney served as a Captain in the United States Army Nurse Corps, leading healthcare teams in both domestic and international settings. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to serving underserved communities through clinical practice, global medical missions, and healthcare education.

Outside of her professional work, Dr. Mahaney and her husband are foster parents and are raising 11 children. Together, they remain deeply involved in community service, supporting families experiencing homelessness, adults with special needs, and healthcare initiatives both locally and internationally.

Backstory

Dr. Mahaney's career has always centered on service. From military medicine to primary care, women's health, and global medical missions, she has worked across diverse healthcare settings with a consistent focus on expanding access to high-quality care.

Working directly with patients also exposed her to the limitations of traditional healthcare delivery. She became increasingly interested in technologies that could improve clinical decision-making, increase access, and reduce disparities at scale. That interest led her to advanced training in artificial intelligence in medicine and, ultimately, to venture investing.

At Suncoast Ventures, she combines decades of frontline clinical experience with an investor's perspective, evaluating companies not only for their commercial potential but also for their ability to meaningfully improve patient care and healthcare equity.
